Yesterday we celebrated in our offices of Santalucía The workshop on the valuation of startups and the investment process. It was taught by Raúl del Pozo, founding partner of Cink Emprender, a consultant specialized in entrepreneurship. In addition, Raúl is a private investor in startups. Our entrepreneurs had the opportunity to learn great things, and of course they didn't waste it. Why did we decide to hold this workshop for our startups? In a high percentage of recently created projects, especially those in the technology sector (startups), they require financial support in their early stages, whether public or private funding. But raising capital is not an easy task for startups. In order to be able to deal with raising private funds, whether through business angels or capital funds or venture capital funds, it is necessary to carry out an assessment of the project with the objective of be able to negotiate the inflow of capital in exchange for a percentage of the company's shareholding. The most important thing about this workshop for those of us who carried out the Santalucía IMPULSA acceleration program was that our entrepreneurs understand the main valuation methods for early-stage startups, as well as the investment process. To achieve our goal, we introduced the following aspects in this workshop:

  • Clarification of the reasons why it is necessary to evaluate our startup.
  • Explanation of who's who in the startup funding system.
  • Differentiating the funding phases of a startup and understanding the key terminology in funding.
  • Analysis of different valuation methods: Berkus, Risk Mitigation, VC W. Sahlman, and Startup Valuation Mix.
  • Study of tools: first of all, setting out a decalogue of terminology of an investment process and establishing a manual of the unwritten rules of an investment process. In addition to learning different tools: Scorecard, Cap Table, and the simulation, evaluation and dilution tool.

In addition, we have the visit of César Bardají, who made his knowledge about investing in startups available to our entrepreneurs. And who, in addition, gave us their opinion, stating that what they value most when investing in a startup are undoubtedly The people. We are convinced that Raúl managed to get our entrepreneurs to understand the main methods of evaluating startups in the early stage phase, and we want to thank him from Santalucía IMPULSA for the commitment and dedication with which he carried out the workshop. We also want to thank all our startups:Sense Water Foil, WBunker, Wibber, Wake App Health, Xenopat, Livetopic, Beprevent, Willowi, Sentimer Technologies and Cerqana, for their participation in it, always with desire and ambition to be better every day. You will go far!
