Nowadays it's a common thing to hear about success. We want to be successful at work, in our personal life, in life. But what exactly is success? We've all heard that about... “it's a successful company” or “it's a very successful person”. Today we want to share with you Five myths related to entrepreneurship that we believe may be of use to you. The sooner we stop believing in them, the better!

1. Success means the same thing to everyone

Not everyone has the same aspirations or shares the same concept of what success is. Even in the world of entrepreneurship Success can mean something different for each person. Some people consider that success is to make a lot of money, others to achieve the perfect balance between running their company and reconciling their personal life, others to make their company internationalize or even to be able to help thanks to their business idea, to impact other people for the better. Everyone has a way of being, of thinking and of living. Therefore, the really important thing is to know yourself, to know what our idea of success is and strive to achieve our goals.

2. The harder you work, the greater your success

Hard work is vital for a startup and for any entrepreneur who wants to make their project grow. There is always something to do, something to work on or that can be improved. We tend to think that, with enough effort, we will achieve what we set out to do. This idea is two-sided, since on the one hand it impels us to fight for our goals, which will bring us closer to them, but on the other hand, can be a toxic way of thinking for those looking to take their business to the next level.

We can always find things to do, but we need to have a plan, be sure of what we need to do at all times and also take the necessary breaks. Taking a break, resting, and getting away from work issues for a while will prevent the exhaustion and fatigue that come from working too hard or for too long. Finding the balance between work and rest will bring us even closer to success that we are looking for for our startup or business.

3. Success is a matter of luck

Success doesn't depend on luck. Success is achieved working and striving to achieve what you want, whether it's starting your own company, growing your startup or learning any new skill. As Anxo Pérez says: “It is not the one who finds the most luck that goes the most, but the one who walks the most miles”. So, don't wait for luck to come, go in search of opportunities and don't let them escape!

4. Success is achieved by attacking evil

On many occasions we tend to focus on the things we do wrong, we focus on mistakes and how we could have done better, or how we can fix this or that. Of course, we all like things to work out, and striving for that is important. However, constantly putting the bad in the spotlight and only highlighting the mistakes of our colleagues, subordinates, or even our own, can have a counterproductive effect.

We live in a culture of criticism rather than that of applause, and we should do more to celebrate the good instead of correcting what is wrong, since this will motivate and excite those around us much more and will help to improve everything we consider in a more fruitful way.

5. Data is always the answer

Although the data they are a very important component for any company, can be an obstacle when we only base our decisions on them. The ideal is to use them as a source of information, to find out how to use them to improve our situation and to ask us more useful questions, to guide us to innovative and creative solutions that provide true value to our project.

And what do you think about success? What other myths do you think need to be broken?
